CBSE Date sheet 2010, Class 10th and 12th

THE CENTRAL Board of Secondary Education or CBSE has announced the date sheet for Class X and XII CBSE Board examination for the academic year of 2009-10. While the CBSE board exams for both Class 10th and 12th will begin from March 3, 2010, they will end on separate dates for the two years. The Class X exams would end on March 31, 2010 and the Class XII ones would end on April 8, 2010.

The first paper Class 10th CBSE exams would be music. Social Science will be held on March 5, while the second language paper (Urdu, Bengali, Tamil, Punjabi - will be held on March 8. Mathematics is on on March 11 and English on March 23. Science practicals, the last examination, will be held on March 31. The date sheet is available here: CBSE 10th Datesheet

BITSAT 2010: Apply by Jan 30

Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS) Pilani has invited applications for admission to the Integrated First Degree programmes at Pilani Campus, Goa Campus, and Hyderabad Campus for the academic year 2010-11. Admissions will be made on the basis of ‘BITS Admission Test-2010’ (BITSAT-2010), a Computer based Online Test.

Programmes: Integrated First Degree Programmes to which admissions will be made on the basis of BITSAT-2010 are as follows:

(i) Pilani Campus: B.E (Hons.): Chemical, Civil, Computer Science, Electrical and Electronics, Electronics & Instrumentation, Mechanical, Manufacturing; B.Pharm (Hons.); M.Sc (Hons.): Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Economics, Mathematics, Physics and M.Sc (Tech.): General Studies, Finance, Information Systems.

(ii) Goa Campus: B.E (Hons): Chemical, Computer Science, Electrical and Electronics, Electronics & Instrumentation, Mechanical; M.Sc (Hons): Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Economics, Mathematics, Physics and M.Sc.(Tech.): Information Systems.

(iii) Hyderabad Campus: B.E (Hons.): Chemical, Civil, Computer Science, Electronics & Communication, Electrical and Electronics, Mechanical; B.Pharm (Hons.); M.Sc.(Hons.): Biological Sciences, Chemistry; Economics, Mathematics, Physics and M.Sc.(Tech.): Information Systems.

Those admitted to M.Sc (Hons) Programmes are given an option to work for a second Degree for one of the B.E. (Hons)/B.Pharm(Hons) Programmes under the Dual Degree scheme, assignment being made by competition on their performance at BITS at the end of first year, separately in Pilani, Goa and Hyderabad campuses. Under this scheme, a student normally requires five years to complete both the Degrees and is awarded both the Degrees, namely M.Sc.(Hons.) and B.E.(Hons.)/B.Pharm.(Hons.)

Eligibility: Applicants for admission to any of the Integrated First Degree Programmes, should have passed the 12th examination of 10+2 system from a recognized Central/State Board or equivalent, with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics securing a minimum aggregate of 80% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics together, with at least 60% marks in each of Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics and should have adequate proficiency in English. Only those appearing for 12th examination in 2010 or who have passed 12th Examination in 2009 are eligible to appear for BITSAT-2010. If a candidate has taken more than one attempt in 12th Class/equivalent, only the latest performance is considered, provided this attempt has been for the full component of subjects/courses prescribed. Those who have passed 12th examination in 2008 or earlier are not eligible to appear for BITSAT-2010. Students who are presently studying in BITS at any of its campuses are not eligible to appear in BITSAT-2010.Admissions will be made purely on merit, based on the score obtained in BITSAT-2010.

Direct Admission to Board Toppers: First rank holders of all Central and State Boards in India for 2010 will be given direct admission to Programme of their choice, irrespective of their BITSAT-2010 score as per the eligibility criteria. Details about this scheme will be available at BITS website by 20th May, 2010.

Applications for BITSAT : Application can be submitted online at http://www.bitsadmission.com. A print out of the filled form has to be taken. The completed application form along with the prescribed fees of Rs. 1000/- (Rs. 500/- for female candidates) paid as per the details for payment of fees available at the website, should be sent to Admissions Officer, BITS, Pilani, Rajasthan-333 031.

Application form can also be obtained by Post from the Admissions Office, BITS, Pilani till 21st January, 2010, by sending a request on plain paper giving the Name, Gender and complete postal address of the applicant, along with a Crossed Demand Draft for Rs. 1100/- (Rs. 600/- for female candidates) drawn in favour of ‘Birla Institute of Technology & Science’, payable at State Bank of India, Pilani (code: 11309)/State Bank of Bikaner & Jaipur, Pilani (Code: 10398)/UCO Bank, Vidya Vihar, Pilani (Code: 0150)/ICICI Bank, Jhunjhunu (Code: 0799).

Completed form of BITSAT-2010 should reach Admissions Office, BITS Pilani, Rajasthan-333 031, by Registered Post/Speed Post or should be submitted personally latest by 5 pm on 30th January, 2010.

Scheme of BITSAT: In BITSAT, the ‘Computer Based Online test’, the candidate sits in front of a computer at the Examination Centre. Questions are presented on the computer monitor. The candidate has to answers the questions on the computer through the use of keyboard or mouse. Each computer is connected to a server, which prepares the question set and delivers it to the candidate on the computer.

BITSAT-2010 will be held between 10th May 2010 and 10th June 2010, at Pilani, Goa, Hyderabad City, Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Hyderabad Campus of BITS, Chandigarh, Chennai, Bhubaneswar, Delhi, Gurgaon, Coimbatore, Indore, Kolkatta, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, Noida, Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada and Gwalior. Applicant can choose the Center, Day and Time of his/her convenience to take the test. Test center allotment and announcement to candidates will be made by the 15th of February, 2010.Candidates are to reserve Test dates between 18th February, 2010 and 10th March, 2010. Hall tickets with instructions have to be downloaded from the website during 10th April, 2010 to 30th April, 2010.

BITSAT-2010 will be conducted on the basis of NCERT syllabus for 11th and 12th classes. The detailed syllabus is available at the website. Sample test will be made available to the registered candidates at the BITS website on which he/she can practice as many times as desired.

BITSAT-2010 will be of 3-hour duration (without break) and will consist of 150 objective type (multiple choice questions) in four parts, namely Physics (Part I-40 questions), Chemistry (Part II-40 questions), English Proficiency (15 questions) and Logical Reasoning (10 questions) (Part III) and Mathematics (Part IV-45 questions). Each question will have four answers, of which only one will be correct. Each correct answer fetches 3 marks, while each incorrect answer has a penalty of 1 mark (-1mark). No marks are awarded for questions not attempted. Candidate can skip a question.

But the computer will not allow the candidate to choose more than one option as correct answer. There is no time limit for individual parts of the test. The candidate can go back and change any of his/her answers among the 150 questions. If a candidate answers all the 150 questions, without skipping any question, the candidate will have an option of attempting 12 extra questions, if there is still time left. These extra questions will be from Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics only, with four questions from each part. Once the candidate has opted for extra questions, he/she cannot go back for correction of any of the 150 questions answered earlier.

At the completion of the test, the computer will announce the result to the candidate in terms of number of total correct answers and wrong answers, with the score. The candidate can also check and print the score report at the BITS website after all the tests are completed. No student will be allowed to repeat the test in the same year.

Procedure for Applying for admission: All candidates who have appeared in BITSAT-2010 and are interested in admission will be required to submit Admission application with 12th marks and preferences to different degree programmes offered, on or before 30th June, 2010.

The prescribed application form for admission, the detailed application procedure and the final list of Degree Programmes offered will be available at the BITS website, by 20th May 2010. In addition to applying for and appearing in BITSAT-2010 now, candidates have to also apply for admission to BITS giving details of their 12th marks and preferences to different degree Programmes offered, then. ISAT-2010: Apply from Dec 21

The IIST Admission Test 2010 (ISAT 2010) for admissions to the Undergraduate Programmes (B.Tech) at Indian Institute of Space Science Technology, Thiruvananthapuram, will be held at Ahmedabad, Allahabad, Bangalore, Bhopal, Calicut, Chandigarh, Chennai, Cuttack, Dehradoon, Delhi, Dispur, Hyderabad, Hubli, Imphal, Jaipur, Jodhpur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Madurai, Mumbai, Nagpur, Panaji, Patna, Raipur, Ranchi, Shillong, Silchar, Srinagar, Thiruvananthapuram, and Vishakapatnam on on 16th April, 2010,

ISAT will consist of two papers, each of two hours duration. Both the question papers will be of objective type and will consist of three separate sections on Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. The detailed syllabi of ISAT-2010 will be included in the ISAT - 2010 Brochure which will be available in ISAT-2010 webpage from 21st December, 2009.

Paper-I will be held from 10 am to 12 noon (IST) and Paper-II will be from 2 pm to 4 pm (IST). The schedule will remain unaltered even if the above date is declared a public holiday. Applicant should be an Indian citizen. Applicants under General and OBC categories should have be born on or after October 1, 1985, while those belonging to SC/ST/PD categories should have been born on or after October 1, 1980.

Applicant should have passed the Qualifying Examination (Plus Two or equivalent) for the first time, in the calendar year 2009 or should pass in 2010, provided the results are available before 1st July 2010. Those who are going to appear in the Qualifying Examination or expecting the results of the Qualifying Examination later than July 1, 2010, are not eligible to apply for ISAT-2010. General and OBC categories must have secured at least 70% marks in aggregate in their Class X or equivalent examination, while, those belonging to SC/ST/PD categories must secure at least 60% marks in aggregate in their in their Class X or equivalent examination. Applicants belonging to General and OBC categories must secure at least 70% marks in the aggregate in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (PCM) papers in their Qualifying Examination, while, those belonging to SC/ST/PD categories must secure at least 60% marks in the aggregate in PCM in their Qualifying Examination.

Seats are reserved for Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), Other Backward Castes (OBC) belonging to Non-Creamy Layer (NCL) and Physically Disabled (PD) candidates, as per Government of India rules. The B.Tech Programmes at IIST include B.Tech in Avionics, Physical Sciences and Aerospace Engineering.

B.Tech in Avionics covers the topics covered in typical Electronics and Communications programmes. In addition, the course provides exposure to Advanced Electronics in digital and communication, control systems and computer systems used in aerospace systems. B.Tech Avionics Degree holders can later specialize in areas like DSP, RF & Communication, Antenna, Power electronics, micro electronics, control system etc.

B.Tech Physical Sciences is oriented towards application of basic sciences in Space Science, Space Technology and Space Application. The programme lays a strong foundation in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and gives exposure to important applications of space technology such as Remote Sensing and GIS, Astronomy and Astrophysics, and Earth System Sciences. Those with B.Tech Degree in Physical Science can later specialize in areas like Atmospheric and Ocean sciences, Solid Earth Science, Astronomy and Astrophysics, Remote Sensing & GIS, and Chemical Systems. The curriculum will have the best blend of Basic Science and Engineering.

B.Tech in Aerospace Engineering is similar to programmes of the same title available in many reputed Institutions in India and abroad. The programme in IIST is oriented towards the needs of space technology, and has significant overlap with Mechanical Engineering including Mechanical Design and Manufacturing Science and Space Dynamics. Those with B.Tech Degree in Aerospace Engineering can further specialize in Flight Mechanics, Aerodynamics, Thermal and Propulsion, Structure and Design, and Manufacturing Science.

The complete cost of education at IIST for all the students is borne by the Department of Space through an assistanceship package which includes the statutory semester fees, student amenity fees, hostel charges including dining, establishment charges and medical cover. Additionally each student gets a book allowance of Rs 3000/- per semester

Take BTech from IIST ; with no fee

ISAT, the Test for Admission to the B.Tech Programmes in Aerospace Engineering, Avionics and Physical Sciences at the Indian Institute of Space Science Technology (IIST), Thiruvananthapuram-695022, will be held on 17th April, 2010.

At IIST's BTech courses, which are offered for free to students, Avionics has 65 seats, Aerospace Engineering has 52 seats and Physical Sciences has 39 seats. The subjects for specialised study in Aerospace Engineering are Aerospace, Mechanical Design and Manufacturing while in Avionics students can specialise in Electronics, Communication and Control. In BTech Physical Science, Astronomy, Earth Science, Remote Sensing and Chemical System are the subjects to be specialised.

The specialties of IIST include top class facilities for projects on rockets and satellites, summer and winter internship facilities at ISRO centres across India, experiments and practical classes related to space projectors and excellent faculties. The courses are conducted with the recognition of All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), University Grants Commission (UGC) and the Central Government.

The syllabi of the three BTech courses include fundamental science subjects, Mathematics, Fundamental Engineering, Core Engineering and Electronics. The curriculam has been designed to suit space programmes.

In MTech courses, students can specialise in Adaptive and Applied Optics, Soft Computing and Machine Learning, R.F. and Microsystems and Chemical System.

STUDY FOR FREE

Free education is provided to all students who secure admission to IIST. All expenses including boarding and lodging and mess, wiil be borne by the Space Department under assistanceships provided to all the students. Book Grant of Rs.3000/- per semester is also provided. Medical care and medical insurance are also provided. On successful completion of the courses, students will be considered for scientist/engineer posts in the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).

Students who have secured 70 percent marks or more together for physics, chemistry and mathematics in Plus Two or equivalent examination can apply for the BTech course. Those who are appearing for the final year examination of the qualifying course can also apply. The applicants should also have secured 70 percent marks in 10th standard exam. Candidates belonging to SC/ST and physically challenged need to secure only 60 percent marks.

Candiates should have born on or after 1985 October 1. For SC/ST the stipulation in this regard is relaxed to 1980 October 1 or after. The application fee is Rs 500. For SC/ST, physically challenged and girl students, the application fee is Rs 250.

The current decision is to accept the applications online only. However, there can be a decision to accept applications offline too. The authorities informed that the facility to accept applications online will be opened on December 15 at the website www.iist.ac.in. The notification in this regard will be issued on December 15.

The Examination is in Multiple Choice-Objective Type and in two sections on April 17, from 10 am to 12 noon and 2 pm to 4 pm. The questions are on subjects Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. There will be 30 entrance test centres across the country. In Kerala Thiruvananthapuram and Kozhikode are the test centres. Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Delhi and Mumbai are included as the entrance test centres.

The institute has been functioning for the past three years at Thumba near Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC). By 2010 March the institute will be shifted to its own building at Valiyamala campus in Thiruvananthapuram, said the authorities.

ASTROSAT all set to be launched next year

India's first science satellite ASTROSAT is all set to be launched next year, former chairman of Indian Space Research Organisation Dr Madhavan Nair said here today. One more satellite 'Aditya' to study Sun's coronal mass ejection (CME) will be launched in two years while the science mission to planet Mars by 2013, Nair said addressing a galaxy of scientists from India and abroad and the student community at the Grand Finale function of Bhabha Centenary celebrations which concluded today.

The multi-wavelength astronomy mission ASTROSAT on an Indian remote sensing satellite-class satellite in a 650-km, near-equatorial orbit will be launched next year, he said adding it will be launched by the Indian launch vehicle PSLV from the Sriharikota launchpad. The expected operating life time of the satellite will be five years.

`Adiyta' will be launched in next two years to study the properties of CMEs, that are gigantic bubbles of electrified gas that billow away from the Sun. CME can carry as much as 10 billion tons of solar material and trigger spectacular geomagnetic storms if they hit Earth's magnetosphere. CMEs, which usually travel at speeds between 500 and 1500km per second, take 2 or 3 days to cross the 150 million km divide separating the Sun and Earth. About India's Mars mission, Nair said various concepts about going to Mars and nearby objects are being looked into and it is at a conceptual stage right now.

"We have the capability and will be using Geosynchronous satellite launch vehicle (GSLV) for launching the Mars mission," he said. "The ISRO has begun the preparations for sending a spacecraft to Mars and discussions are thrown out to find what are the things we have explore in Martian atmosphere," he said.

Earlier this year Union Government sanctioned seed money of Rs 10 crore for Mars project to carry out various studies on experiments to be conducted, route of the mission and other related details necessary to scale the new frontier. About Chandraan II mission, he said "it is going to be one our flagship mmission and is expected to be launched in 2013.Yesterday ISRO had conducted a review of the instrumentation required for the mission,"he said.

"The design for Chandrayaan-II is ready which includes an orbiter, lander and rover which will be used to studey the surface of the moon in detail including the moon magma," Nair said. He also explained that last year, ISRO had sent to space a capsule which was recovered after keeping in orbit for 22 days. The Space Recovery Experiment (SRE) was seen as a technology demonstrator for future manned missions. He also impressed upon the student community from various colleges that ISRO is also actively working on atmospheric science and developing a parallel local weather forecasting system which can predict weather in a specified locality before 72 hours.

ISRO is having a joint venture with France, the Megha-Tropiques Mission (MTM), to study the water cycle in the tropical atmosphere in the context of climate change, he added. It is a collaborative effort with the French Centre National d’Etudes Spatiales, he said.

Kerala Engg/Med Entrance : Apply by January 6

Commissioner for Entrance Examinations (CEE), Kerala has invited applications for admissions to Professional Degree Courses, Kerala in Medicine (including Agriculture and Veterinary), Engineering and Architecture for the academic year 2010-11. The Entrance Examinations for admission to these courses except Architecture will be held at all the District Centres in Kerala, New Delhi and Dubai (UAE) as per Indian Standard Time (IST).

The Engineering Entrance Examination (For admission to engineering courses except Architecture) will be held from 10 am to 12.30 noon (IST) on 19th and 20th April, 2010 with Paper-I (Physics & Chemistry) on 19.04.2010 (Monday) and Paper-II (Mathematics), on 20.04.2010 (Tuesday).

The Medical Entrance Examination (for admission to Medical/ Agriculture/ Veterinary Courses) will also be held from 10 am to 12.30 noon (IST) on 21.04.2010 (Wednesday; Paper-I : Chemistry & Physics) and 22.04.2010 (Thursday; Paper-II: Biology).

Courses in the Medical/Agriculture/Veterinary stream include (i) MBBS (ii) BDS (iii) BHMS (iv) BAMS (v) BSMS (vi) BSc. Hons. (Agriculture) (vii) BFSc. (Fisheries) (viii) BSc. Hons. (Forestry) and (ix) BVSc & AH Courses in the Engineering stream include the B.Tech Courses in Engineering Colleges and the B.Tech (Agricultural Engg) and B.Tech (Dairy Science & Technology courses under the Kerala Agricultural University. Allotment to the Medical and Engineering courses will be based on the rank in the respective Entrance Examinations.

No Entrance Examination will be conducted by the CEE for admission to B.Arch. course. Allotment to B.Arch course will be based on the rank list prepared by giving equal weightage to the marks in NATA and qualifying examination. Those desirous of seeking admission to B.Arch course should compulsorily appear and qualify the National Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA) conducted by the National Institute of Advanced Studies in Architecture (NIASA) and also apply separately to the CEE as per this Notification.

Eligibility:

Nationality: Applicant should be an Indian citizen. Persons of Indian Origin (PIO)/Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) Card Holders will be treated on par with Indian citizens for the limited purpose of admission.

Nativity: Applicant should be a Kerlaite or Non-Kerlaite. Applicants are considered for admission to various types of seats allotted by the CEE, based on their Nativity status.

Keralite: Applicants of Kerala origin will be categorized as ‘Keralites’. Others will be categorized as ‘Non-Keralites’.

An applicant will be considered as a ’Keralite’, for the limited purpose of eligibility for admission, if (a) he/she or his/her father/mother was born in Kerala OR (b) he/she has been a resident of Kerala for a period of 5 years within a period of 12 years OR (c) he/she has undergone his/her school studies from Standards VIII to XII in educational institution(s) in Kerala, subject to the submission of the relevant certificates in the application form as prescribed in the Prospectus. Applicants who are children of All India Service (AIS) officers allotted to Kerala cadre, claiming Keralite Status, should produce a certificate from the competent authority showing that the parent of the candidate is an AIS officer allotted to Kerala cadre.

Non-Keralites: Non-Keralites are classified as ‘Non-Keralite Category-I’ and ‘Non-Keralite Category-II’. ‘Non-Keralite Category-I’ candidates are those who have undergone the qualifying course in Kerala, and who are the sons/daughters of Employees of the Government of India OR employees who are serving in connection with the affairs of the Government of Kerala, subject to the condition that, all categories of the employees mentioned, should have served in Kerala for a minimum period of 2 years or should have served in connection with the affairs of the Government of Kerala for a minimum period of 2 years. Such candidates will be eligible for admission to the Government seats under ‘State Merit’ only, for all the courses, which are filled on the basis of the rank in the Entrance Examination(s) or the rank list prepared by giving equal weightage to the marks in NATA and qualifying examination, as applicable.

Candidates who do not belong to the ‘Keralite’ or ‘Non-Keralite Category-I’ will be treated as ‘Non-Keralite Category-II'. They are eligible for admission only to the ‘State Merit’ seats in the Private Self-financing Engineering Colleges in the State and in the Management Quota seats in Self-financing Engineering institutions sponsored by Government. Non-Keralite candidates will not be considered for admission against reserved seats.

Academic Qualification:

Medical/Agriculture/Veterinary Courses: Applicant should have passed the Higher Secondary Examination or examination recognized as equivalent thereto, with 50% marks in Biology and 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Biology together. Those seeking admission to BVSc & AH course under the Kerala Agricultural University, in addition, should have passed the qualifying examination with 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English put together, as per the regulation of Veterinary Council of India. Those seeking admission to MBBS/BDS courses should secure 50% marks in the Medical Entrance Examination, as per the guidelines issued by Medical Council of India.

Those who do not satisfy the eligibility as per the Higher Secondary/Equivalent examination will be considered for admission to MBBS, BDS, BAMS, BHMS, BSMS Courses if they have a B.Sc Degree with one of Physics/Chemistry/Zoology/Botany/Bio-Chemistry as Main, and any one or two of these subjects as subsidiaries, with 50% marks for Main and Subsidiaries taken together, after having passed the Higher Secondary or equivalent examination, with Physics, Chemistry and Biology as optional subjects.

Engineering Courses: Applicant should have passed Higher Secondary Examination, Kerala or examinations recognized as equivalent thereto, with 50% marks in Mathematics and 50% marks in Mathematics, Physics and one among Chemistry/Bio-technology/Computer Science/Biology together. Those with 3- year Diploma in Engineering awarded by the Board of Technical Examinations, Kerala or equivalent, having 50% marks in the final Diploma examination, are also eligible for admission to Engineering courses except to those offered by Kerala Agricultural University.

Architecture Course: Applicant should have passed 10+2 Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination or examinations recognized as equivalent thereto, with Mathematics as a subject of examination, with 50% marks in aggregate. Those who have passed 10+3 Diploma (any stream) recognized by Central/State Governments with 50% aggregate marks, those with International Baccalaureate Diploma, after 10 years of schooling, with not less than 50% marks in aggregate and with Mathematics as compulsory subject of examination are also eligible to apply for B.Arch Course. In addition, applicant including those belonging to SC/ST/SEBC categories should have scored 40% marks (80 marks out of 200) in the NATA (National Aptitude Test in Architecture). Relaxation in marks in the Qualifying Examination : For all courses, a relaxation of 5% marks in the qualifying examination will be allowed to those candidates who belong to the communities listed under the Socially and Educationally Backward Classes (SEBC) and whose annual family income is up to Rs. 4.5 lakhs. SC/ST candidates need only a pass in the qualifying examination.

Those belonging to SEBC categories, seeking admission to MBBS/BDS courses, need 45% marks in Biology and 45% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Biology put together, in the qualifying examination and 40% marks in Medical Entrance Examination. Those belonging to SC/ST categories need 40% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Biology put together in the qualifying examination and 40% marks in the Entrance Examination for admission to MBBS/BDS Courses. Applicants with Locomotory Disability between 40% and 70% need only 45% marks for Biology and 45% marks for Biology, Physics and Chemistry taken together as academic eligibility for MBBS course. They need only 45% marks in the Entrance Examination to qualify for MBBS course.

Those appearing or have appeared for the Higher Secondary or equivalent examination or for the 3-year Engineering Diploma Examination of the current academic year, may take the Entrance Examination(s) provisionally. Their admission will be subject to their proving academic eligibility on the date of admission. However, those applying for Medical courses based on BSc. Degree should have passed the Degree Examination at the time of submission of application.

Age: Applicant should complete 17 years of age as on 31st December, 2010.

Application Forms: Only one application need be submitted for the entrance examinations for admission to one or more of Medical/Agriculture/Veterinary, Engineering and Architecture courses.

Application Fee: Application Fee is Rs.700/- for General candidates and Rs.350/-, for SC/ST candidates. Scheduled Tribe (ST) candidates whose annual family income is below Rs.40,000/- can have Application Form free of cost from the District Offices of the Scheduled Tribes Development Department on production of Community Certificate and Income Certificate. The colour of the General Application form is White while the colour of the Application from for SC/ST applicants is Sky Blue. Those under ‘Other Eligible Communities' (OEC) should apply in the General application form. Applicants who are children of Inter-Caste Married Couple, of which one is SC/ST, should apply in the form meant for SC/ST.

Sale of Forms: The Sale of Applications will start on 7th December 2009 through selected Post offices in the state and outside, as per the list given at http://www.cee-kerala.org/engmed/2010/apl_sale/polist_e.pdf and will continue till 6th January, 2010. The amount towards the fee of application is to be remitted in cash at the Post Offices. The Application Kit includes an Application form, OMR Data Sheet, an envelope bearing the address of the Commissioner for Entrance Examinations and the Prospectus. Those purchasing the kit should ensure that the Application number printed in the Application Form, OMR Data Sheet and on the cover are the same.

Online Application: Those who do not claim any reservation benefit and those belonging to Non-Keralite category can apply ‘Online’ at www.cee-kerala.org. On successful submission of the data online, an Application number will be generated. The applicant should take a print out of this application. The application fee Rs.700/- has to be remitted in any branch of State Bank of Travancore (SBT) using the chalan contained in the print out of the application. Print out of application complete in all respects along with original chalan certified by the Bank authorities and other requisite certificates should be forwarded to the Office of the CEE before the last date specified for submission of application forms. Applicants who do not have access to State Bank of Travancore (SBT) can attach a Demand Draft for Rs.700/- drawn on a Nationalized Bank in favour of the Commissioner for Entrance Examinations payable at Thiruvananthapuram, as application fee along with the Application form, with Application Number and Name of Applicant written on the back of the Demand Draft. Online application process will be completed only on receipt of the print out of the application along with all requisite certificates, in the office of the Commissioner for Entrance Examinations.

Centre Fee: Those opting ‘Dubai’ (UAE) as the Centre for Entrance Examination, should submit along with their filled in application form, a Demand Draft for Rs.8,500/-, drawn on a Nationalized Bank in favour of the 'Commissioner for Entrance Examinations' payable at Thiruvananthapuram. Those applying online and choosing ‘Dubai’ as Cente for the Entrance Examination, should enclose Demand Drafts for Rs.700/- (Application fee) and Rs.8,500/- (Centre fee). Examination at Dubai centre is conducted as per Indian Standard Time (IST).

Last Date: Filled in Application Form along with the OMR Data Sheet and other relevant documents, to be submitted with the Application Form, enclosed in the printed envelope bearing the address of the Commissioner for Entrance Examinations supplied along with the application form or the print out, DD/Challan and other documents in case of online applications, should reach the Commissioner for Entrance Examinations, latest by 5 p.m. on 06.01.2010 (Wednesday), by Hand/Registered Post/Speed Post. Completed Applications will be received in the Office of the Commissioner for Entrance Examinations on holidays also.

Wipro Academy invites applications for MS course

The Wipro Academy of Software Excellence (WASE) has invited applications for admission to the MS course conducted in association with Birla Institute of Technology and Science Pilani (BITS Pilani) for the academic year 2010-2011.

The WASE program is a pioneering initiative in the field of higher education in India. It offers B.Sc, BCA and BCM students the opportunity to immediately take up an MS course in Computer Science without having to complete an engineering degree after graduation. Students gain invaluable industry exposure and develop their technical skills by working on live projects on weekdays for the duration of the course with Wipro.

Wipro leveraged the expertise of one of India's premier technical institutes - BITS Pilani, to coordinate its education program. Mouse has eaten the 'CAT'

Opposition members expressed concern in the Lok Sabha today over the server crash during the CAT examinations that affected hundreds of students all over the country.

Raising the issue during zero hour, Deputy leader of BJP, Sushma Swaraj, said the development was a shock for several talented students who had come all prepared to face the examination.

"Mouse has eaten the CAT," she said referring to the development, and noted that "It was nothing less than a shock as their computers either failed to get connectivity or could be able to see only two of the four options available in the question paper."

Amid cries of "shame, shame" from Opposition benches, she said it was a matter of regret that India, which boasts itself to be a superpower in the field of Information Technology, failed to conduct the Common Admission Test (CAT) for management education, properly.

Noting that examination centres affected included those in Bangalore and Bhopal, she said there should be no recurrence of such incidents in future.
