Engg admission process to begin by Aug 10

The proceedings for the first round allotment for engineering admission would be launched by August 10. The Education Minister P.K.Abdu Rabb told on Tuesday evening that the Government Order (GO) validating the agreement reached between the State Government and the Kerala Self-Financing Engineering College Management Association (KSFECMA), will be out in two days and the proceedings for the first allotment would be launched by August 10. He said the first allotment was scheduled to be launched in the first week of August and his department was working to materialise things as early as possible.

When it was pointed out to him that the agreement was signed on July 21 and it was taking unusually long time for issuing the GO validating the agreement, the Minister could not offer a plausible explanation. State Higher Education Principal Secretary Tom Jose , who is to issue the GO, was unavailable on his mobile and office numbers despite repeated attempts to contact. The Commissioner of Entrance Examinations would be able to launch the engineering allotment proceedings only if the GO in this regard reaches him.

The CEE is now waiting for the issuance of the Government Order (GO) validating the agreement reached between the State Government and the KSFECMA which represents 75 SF Engineering Colleges in the state. The CEE has published the category list and has invited for complaints, if any, and the final list will be out within a few days. Once this too is over, the CEE can launch the first allotment, said reliable sources.

The knotty problem the CEE faced in launching the first allotment was apportioning the 15 percent community quota for each management as per the new agreement. The software for allotment needed some modification in this regard and moreover the stand of managements in this regard had to be ascertained. Those managements remaining silent will not get community quota and their 15 percent will be added to the general merit quota (SCMS has already opted out of this). Now the CEE has informed the managements to inform him of their preference by August 5 .

Since there are cases pending in the High Court regarding engineering admission, the CEE cautions in his each order that his proceedings will be subject to the orders of the court. Having made his side safe this way, the CEE hopes to proceed with the allotment also and circumvent any legal hurdle that exists now.
