Equally important is entering the details on the applicant's caste, category, residing panchayat, taluk, NCC membership, the honours in Scouts, swimming experience, whether jawan's dependent and the school where the candidate studied for 10th. These bits of information get bonus points and hence carries weightage in the admission. School, course and community code should be entered correctly.

Those who have passed SSLC in 2010 may submit the computer printout of the marklist. If the applicant's caste/religion, grama panchayat/municipality/corporation/taluk details are available on the SSLC Certificate, that applicant need not submit other certificates to prove these aspects. The details of a candidate submitted to a school are registered online at the website www.hscap.kerala.gov.in Applicants can verify the details on the website and ensure their accuracy. You may contact the school authorities to effect any correction needed.

Once the deadline for application submission expires on May 20, the trial allotment begins on June 1. This trial allotment will help in last minute checking and correction for the applicants. The list of the applicants can be checked at www.hscap.kerala.gov.in If there are any corrections needed in the entries, you may correct it. You may change the options also. The last date for all these is June 8 and all applicants should take special care to meaningfully utilise this time.

Seat Allotment

Seat allotment in the Single Window is in two phases. The first phase includes four allotments and the second phase has three supplementary allotments. The first phase is the most important phase and the second phase takes place after the first phase. The first phase allotment begins on June 9. Those who get the first option allotment should remit the fees and take the seat. Those who get allotment in lower options should take temporary entry in the allotted school. Otherwise they will not be considered for the subsequent allotments. Those who take admission on temporary basis need not remit the fees. Those who get temporary admission on the basis of the lower options will get consideration in the higher order option. Those who take permanent admission in the lower option will not be considered for the higher option in the vacancies that arise later.

Those who continue on temporary admission must make their admission permanent at the closing of the first phase main allotment. Admission to the vacant SC/ST seats will be made through the fourth allotment after inviting fresh applications from these sections.

Supplementary Allotment

Those who don't get the desired school and subject combination after the first phase main allotment can apply for school transfer or a different subject combination in the same school. The details regarding the existing vacancies will be published on the website. Trasfers will be allowed if vacancies exist. School change and combination change will be allowed centrally through the Single Window. This Supplementary Allotment is held to the vacancies that exist after the first phase allotment. Fresh applications will be invited for this. Those who have passed the 'SAY' Examination can apply at this stage. The Higher Order Option will not be allowed for the Supplementary Allotment. Those who had remitted fees and secured permanent admission cannot apply for the Supplementary Allotment.

All the details regarding the vacant seats will be published on the website before inviting applications for the supplementary allotment. Those who did not get admission in the main first phase allotment should renew their existing applications for being considered for the supplementary allotment. They can change their options according to the vacancies. Those who had not applied earlier also can apply for the supplementary allotment.

Permanent Admission and Temporary Admission

There are two different kinds of admission in the Single Window scheme called Permanent Admission and Temporary Admission. Those who get admission at their first option, should remit fees and secure Permanent Admission. They will lose admission if they don't remit the fees. That seat will be considered vacant also. They will not get an opportunity again.

Those who get allotment at lower options need to secure admission only on temporary basis without remitting fees. They will be considered for higher options in the subsequent allotments. They can secure admission by submitting the records of the eligibility examination to the school authorities. There is a facility for those who had secured admission on lower option to cancel the higher option and remit the fees and secure permanent admission. A candidate can cancel a few selected higher options. If the candidate does not cancel any higher options, he/she will have to accept the next higher option allotted in the new allotment. The candidates should take utmost care on this aspect. For securing Permanent Admission and Temporary Admission, candidates need to present before the school principal the originals of their certificates proving eligibility.

Those who have secured admission to schools in different districts should accept one among them and cancel the rest.

Admission Criteria

The admission eligibility of each student is fixed by assessing the Weighted Grade Point Average. For this the grades for each subject in the qualifying examination and the total grade point of the grades of the different subjects will be considered. Moreover weightage will be given for certain subjects in the qualifying examination in line with the subject combination selected for the higher secondary admission. The admission criteria is explained in the prospectus with example.

In another landmark initiative a Central Admission Registry will be prepared and published containing the details of the merit candidates, school-level admissions to sports/management/community quotas and the student details of the un-aided schools. This will be an Official Document. Those who don't figure in this document will not be able to appear for the Higher Secondary Examination. Students can check this registry. If they have complaints, they can inform the principal and seek remedial measures. The main allotments will conclude on June 27. Even if classes start on June 30, the supplementary seat allotment will continue. Admissions will be closed on August 5

How to exercise options

One option includes the school where a student wants to join and one subject combination in that school. Give as first option the school and the subject combination you like most. In that order of preference you can give a few options. Even though you can give 50 options, it is better to give the options you like only.

When you give option, if you select the schools and combinations that are likely to be allotted according to your marks and grade points, then you can ensure admission in the first allotment itself. To come to know about the admission trends, the last rank details of 2009 admissions are given on the website www.hscap.kerala.gov.in You can assess your chances from the last year's trend in a particular school and subject combination and exercise your options this year.
