SET Kerala 2013 : Apply Now


LBS Centre for Science and Technology, Trivandrum, will hold the State Eligibility Test (SET) Kerala, on 16th June, 2013 at Centres in all the District Headquarters in the State.
The SET is being conducted as an eligibility test for those seeking selection as Higher Secondary School Teachers and Non-Vocational Teachers in VHSE. SET is a mandatory requirement for appointment as Higher Secondary School Teachers in the State.
Papers for SET: SET will consist of two papers, each of 2 hours duration. Paper I is common for all candidates. It will have two parts with questions from General Knowledge in Part A and questions on Aptitude in teaching in Part B. Paper II shall be a test based on the subjectof specialisation of the candidate at the Post Graduate (PG) Level.There shall be 35 subjects for Paper II which are Anthropology, Arabic, Botany, Chemistry, Commerce, Economics, English, French, Gandhian Studies, Geography, Geology, German, Hindi, History, Home Science, Islamic History, Journalism, Kannada, Latin, Malayalam, Mathematics, Music, Philosophy, Physics, Political Science, Psychology, Russian, Sanskrit, Social Work, Sociology, Statistics, Syriac, Tamil, Urdu and Zoology.
Eligibility: Applicant should have a II Class Master’s Degree in the concerned subject, with not less than 50% marks and B.Ed.Degree in any discipline from any one of the Universities in Kerala or should have acquired these qualifications from any other University and recognized as equivalent thereto, with certain exceptions as mentioned below.
For Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Botany and Zoology, those having Second Class MSc.Ed Degree in the concerned subject with not less than 50% marks from one of the Regional Institutes of Education sponsored by NCERT will be eligible to apply.
For Botany and Zoology, those having Second Class MSc.Ed Degree in Life Science, from one of the Regional Institutes of Education,with not less than 50% marks are eligible.
For Anthropology, Commerce,French, Gandhian Studies, Geology,German, Home Science, Journalism, Latin,Music, Philosophy, Psychology, Russian,Social Work, Sociology, Statistics and Syriac, applicant need not acquire B.Ed Degree for applying for the State EligibilityTest.
Those who have acquired II class Master’s Degree in Communicative English with not less than 50% marks and BEd are eligible to appear for SET in English.
Those who have acquired Diploma in Hindi Teaching, but do not have B.Ed.Degree, are eligible to apply for SET in accordance with the exemption clause provided in the Special Rules.
Those who have acquired B.Ed Degree in Hindi conducted by the Dakshin Bharatha Hindi Prachar Sabha are exempted from producing the equivalency certificate, as the Degree has been recognized by the Universities in Kerala.
Those who have acquired their qualification through Correspondence Course/ Open Universities which are not recognized by any one of the Universities in Kerala are not eligible to appear for the SET.
Those who have acquired their qualifications through recognized correspondence courses/ Open universities should obtain and furnish certificates of recognition and equivalency from any one of the Universities in Kerala.
Those admitted in 2012 for B.Ed, will be permitted to appear for the State Eligibility Test June-2013.
Those who are appearing for Post Graduate final year / Final semester Examinations in the academic year 2012-13 will also be permitted to appear for SET June-2013 if they already have a B.Ed Degree. SETcertificates of such candidates will be issued only if they qualify the PG/B.Ed examinations in that chance itself. B.Ed candidates have to produce the pass certificates and PG candidates should produce both the pass certificates and marklists for proving their eligibility after qualifying the SET-June-2013. Candidates appearing simultaneously for PG and B.Ed. final examinations are not eligible to appear forSET-June - 2013 under this provision.
For Latin, those who have passed their Degree examination in any discipline from any one of the Universities in Kerala or from any other University recognized as equivalent thereto with Latin as their Second Language under Part II with not less than 50% marks for that Part II are also eligible to appear for SET, provided such candidates have acquired II Class Master’s Degree withnot less than 50% marks in any discipline.
Applicants belonging to SC/ST categories will be granted a relaxation of 5% marks in the minimum marks prescribed for the eligibility to appear for the State Eligibility Test. No age limit is prescribed for candidates appearing for the SET.
Application: Those desirous of registering for the State Eligibility Test are required to pay the fee for the Test in advance to obtain the prescribed Application form and Prospectus to be available from selected Post Offices from 18th March and up to 17th April, 2013.
The fee for general candidates is Rs.750/- and that for SC/ST/VH/PH candidates, Rs.375/-, which can be remitted in anyone of the identified Head Post Offices in the state as per the list available at http://www.lbskerala.com/menu/set/set2013/
Copy of the Prospectus and application form will be issued to all candidates who remit the prescribed fee. SC/ST/VH/PH candidates should produce a copy of the Community Certificate/Disability Certificate to get the prospectus and application form for Rs.375/-.  Application forms are not available by post to those residing in Kerala.
Those residing outside Kerala can request for the Application form and Prospectus by post by sending a Demand Draft for Rs.800/- for general category applicants and Rs.425/- for SC/ST/VH/PH candidates, drawn from any one of the Nationalised banks in India in favour of the Director, LBS Centre for Science & Technology, payable at Thiruvananthapuram along with a self-addressed envelope of size 31 cm X 25 cm, to reach the office of the Director, LBS Centre for Science and Technology, Palayam, Nandavanam, Thiruvananthapuram-695 033, latest by 6th April, 2013. Each application form will have an application number printed on it. Applications submitted using forms other than the original ones issued, will be summarily rejected.
Registration: There are two steps for submitting the application, both of which are mandatory. Step 1 is Online Registration. Applications have to be submitted online atwww.lbskerala.com between 10 am on 19th March and 3 pm on 17th April, 2013. Here, the applicant has to Log on to the site www.lbscentre.org or www.lbskerala.comand click ‘SET-June-2013’ and then, click ‘Download Application Form’. The candidate will be prompted to type the application number and the Site Access Key.The application number and Site Access Key printed on the application form should be typed without error to get the format of the online application form.
The Application has to be filled carefully without mistakes. A candidate can select a District Head Quarter as Test Centre which cannot be changed under anycircumstances. The Venue will be allotted by the Director, LBS Centre for Science &Technology, Thiruvananthapuram which will be intimated to the candidates in due course when Admit Cards are released online. After submitting the details, the applicant should click ‘Submit’. On successful completion of the online registration, a REGISTRATION ID will be provided to each candidate by the Computer. An acknowledgement slip with the Registration ID will be displayed and the candidates should take a print out of the same and retain it for future reference.
Step 2 involves the sending of the Application form to LBS. After completion of step 1, the application form obtained along with the Prospectus should be filled and a recent passportsize photograph of the applicant affixed in it which need not be attested. The filled application should be sent to the Director, LBS Centre for Science and Technology, Extra Police Road, Nandavanam, Palayam, Thiruvananthapuram-695033, in the envelope super-scribed ‘Application for SET-June-2013’, supplied along with the Application Form, with the optional subject selected under Paper II written in the space provided on the envelope, by registered post or should be handed over in person at theLBS Headquarters so as to reach the office latest by 5 pm on 17.4.2013.
Filled applications will not be accepted at the Regional units or Sub Centres of the LBS Centre. Copies of certificates / mark lists should not be sent along with the application. These documents are required only after the results are announced. SC/ST/VH/PH Candidates should enclose community certificate/disability certificate with their applications. The photograph affixed on the application should be sharp and clear as it is used for printing on the SET-June-2013certificate. Important points for filling up the application forms are given in the Prospectus. The Hall Tickets will be available online from 3rd June 2013. 
Pattern of the Test : SET will consist of two papers, each of 2 hours duration. For Paper I, there will be 120 questions with 60 questions each for Part A and Part B.Each question shall carry 1 mark. There will be 120 questions carrying one mark each for the subjects under Paper II except for Mathematics and Statistics. ForMathematics/Statistics there shall be only 80 questions carrying 1.5 marks each.
The questions of both the papers shall be objective in nature and based on single response. For each question, four suggested responses (A, B, C, D) will be given of which only one will be the most appropriate answer and the candidates will have to select and mark their response in the appropriate space provided in the OMR Answer Sheets using blue/black ball point pen only. For each correct response the candidates will be awarded 1 mark in both the Papers except for Mathematics and Statistics for which each correct response will be awarded 1.5 marks. Marking more than one response against a question shall be deemed as incorrect answer. No marks will be deducted for incorrect answers. Detailed instructions for marking the OMR Sheets will be issued separately.
Syllabus: The syllabus prescribed for the Test will be based on the core areas in the syllabi in the concerned subjects followed by the Universities in Kerala. The approved syllabus of the subjects for SET - June - 2013 is available in the official website of the LBS Centre.
Model Question papers: Question papers of previous years are also given athttp://www.lbskerala.com/menu/set/set2013/
Candidates will not be permitted to use calculator, logarithm table, mobile phone or any other electronic equipment in the Examination Hall. Rough work/calculations can be made only in the blank sheet of the Question Booklet.
Candidates will get a carbon copy of the answered OMR sheet. Candidates can verify the answers they have given with the answer keys published subsequently. No complaints from candidates regarding valuation of answer sheets will be considered, if any tampering with the entries in the carbon copy is detected. Moreover any tampering with the carbon copy shall evoke legal action against the candidate amounting to debarring from appearing for SET in future.
The answer keys of all subjects will be published in the official websites of the LBS Centre on 19.6.2013. Complaints, if any, from the candidates regarding the answer keys may be sent to the Director, LBS Centre, in writing, within five working days from the date of publication of the keys. Complaints not substantiated with supporting documents will not be entertained. The complaints, if any, received from the candidates will be placed  before a panel of experts constituted by the Director, LBS Centre and the decision of the experts shall be final. The Director, LBS Centre is authorised to exclude from evaluation any question or questions found to be wrong or question/s with answers not appropriate, as recommended by the panel of experts. When a question/s is/are excluded from evaluation, the mark/s allotted to is/are also excluded from evaluation.
Pass Criterion : To pass the State Eligibility Test, a candidate shall score (i) at least 35 percent of marks for Paper Iand Paper II separately and (ii) at least 50 percent of the aggregate marks of Paper I and Paper II.
In computing marks, fraction will be rounded off to the first two decimal places in the calculation of aggregate percentage of marks only. No rounding off of marks will be made for calculating the pass percentage for Paper I and Paper II separately.
Results : The results are expected to be announced on 1.8.2013. The details of marks and the eligibility status secured by the candidates appeared for SET June - 2013 will be published in the websites of the LBS Centre. Those who are eligible to be declared as successful have to produce the required documents for verification and issue of certificates. More details on these can be had from the Prospectus.
