CUSAT CAT 2013 : Apply Now

The online application registration for Cusat CAT for admission to BTech, PG, MTech courses will begin at the website http://www.cusat.nic.in from 2nd Feb 2013 onwards. Candidates registering for these programmes need to make payment at the bank after two working days of registration and enter the payment details in the website. The details of the bank payment can be submitted through the website up to 25th February, 2013.

The dates of the Common Admissions Tests are rescheduled due to other All India Examinations scheduled on the same dates. Accordingly the Tests for first Degree Programmes in Engineering and Technology, MA Applied Economics, BBA, LL.B (Hons) / BCom, LL.B (Hons.), MA Hindi and test for MIP, PhD & LL.M., PhD will be conducted on 11 May 2013 Saturday and the Test for Post-Graduate programmes, MCA and Test for 3 year LL.B Course will be conducted on 12 May 2013 Sunday. NEET UG 2013: Application from December 1

The notification for the much awaited first National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for admission to medical under graduate courses (NEET UG) will be published by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on 1st December. Online application will begin on the same day and continue till 31st December.The Exam will be held on 5th May 2013. Applications with late fee will be accepted from 1st to 31st January 2013.

There will be three centres for exam in Kerala,ie; Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi and Kozhikode. Altogether 45,000 MBBS seats and 25,000 BDS seats are to be filled up on the basis of NEET UG. There will be facility for giving options to All India Quota,State Quota, private medical colleges and AFMC while submitting applications. MTech Cutoff 2012 : Kerala

BTech Lateral Entry: Appy by Feb 11

Director of Technical Education (DTE), Kerala has invited applications for admission to the Second Year/Third Semester of the BTech courses under Lateral Entry Scheme, for 2012. The scheme envisages admitting meritorious Diploma holders to 10% of the sanctioned seats for BTech, in addition to total seats, to enable them to acquire a Degree in Engineering.

The admission will be subject to regulations of the Universities concerned and will be based on the list prepared based on an objective type entrance test to be conducted by the Joint Controller of Technical Examinations, Thiruvananthapuram as per the provisions of the Prospectus for B Tech Lateral Entry.

Eligibility: Applicants should have passed Diploma in Engineering awarded by the State Board of Technical Education or Equivalent after undergoing regular course of three years study in an approved institution. Those who are appearing for the final year Diploma examination are also eligible to apply subject to the condition that they shall produce the provisional certificate at the time of admission.

Maximum age as on the last date of submission of application will be 28 years. Non-Keralities are also eligible to apply but their admission will be restricted to the Private Self financing institutions & non-Government seats in the Government controlled Self-financing institutions.

Candidates will be admitted only to the branch of Engineering as per the equivalency given in Annexure A of the Prospectus that can be downloaded from http://www.dtekerala.gov.in/downloads/prosbtech.pdf

Reservation of seats: All seats under Lateral Entry scheme in Government Engineering Colleges will be allotted as Government seats. The availability of Government seats in Government controlled and other Private Self-Financing Engineering Colleges will be announced before ensuing online admission. 15% of seats under Lateral Entry are reserved as Management seats in Aided Engineering Colleges and remaining 85% will be allotted as Government seats. 

Communal reservation for candidate belonging to Socially and Educationally Backward Classes(SEBC) and SC/ST category will be followed as per usual norms (Ezhava-9%, Muslim-8%, Latin Catholic other than Anglo Indian-2%, B.H-5%, Backward Christian-1%, Kudumbi-1%, Scheduled Caste-8% and Scheduled Tribe-2%). 3% seats are reserved for physically disabled candidates. Candidates claiming reservation under physically disabled quota shall have a minimum of 40% disability. A disability Certificate from the District Medical Board has to be attached along with the application. Such candidates are also directed to produce a certificate obtained from a Medical officer not below the rank of Assistant surgeon to ensure the fitness of candidates to undergo the course.

One seat each is reserved for Electronics and Communication Engineering, Electrical & Electronics Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science Engineering and Information Technology branch for defence quota. For claiming reservation in this quota, relevant certificate should be attached. 80% of the available seats in Information Technology branch are reserved for the Diploma Holders in Information Technology.

Applicants belonging to SEBC whose annual family income (annual income of all members in the family from all sources taken together) is up to Rs.4.5 lakhs are eligible for reservation under this category. Candidates claiming reservation under SEBC category should produce both community and income certificates obtained from the concerned village officer in the space provided in the body of the application form. The candidates claiming reservation under SC/ST quota should produce community certificate in the space provided in the body of the application form. In the absence of SC/ST candidates, their seats will be filled from OEC category and they have to furnish community and income certificates from the Village Officer in the space provided in the body of the application form. 

Candidates who are not eligible for communal reservation benefit and who wish to be considered for any scholarship/concession based on the family income that may be announced by Government/College/Admitting Authority at any time after the submission of application should also submit the income certificate, from the concerned authorities at the time of submission of application itself.

Application Fees: Application fee is Rs.750/- for General candidates and Rs.375/- for SC/ST candidates. The fee can be paid in ‘Shakti Account’ of the Joint Controller of Technical Examination at any branch of State Bank of Travancore. ST candidates, whose annual income is below Rs. 40, 000/-, are exempted from payment of application fee subject to production of income certificate.

Applications are to be submitted online. This can be done till 11.2.2012. The downloaded application form duly filled up along with the relevant certificates and Shakti chalan form should reach The Joint Controller of Technical Examinations, Kaimanam, Thiruvananthapuram - 695040, by Registered Post or in person, latest by 5 pm on 25.2.2012.

Entrance Examination: Admission to B Tech Lateral Entry will be based on an objective type Entrance Examination to be held from 10 am to 12 pm on 28.4.2012, at Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Thirur, Kozhikode, Malappuram  and Kannur. Admit Cards for the Examination can be downloaded from www.dtekerala.gov.in orwww.tekerala.org from 21.04.2012 to 27.04.2012.

The Entrance Test will be on selected subjects of first year B.Tech course and English language as per the scheme and syllabus given in Annexure D of the Prospectus and will have 120 objective type questions from English, Mathematics, Engineering Mechanics, IT and Computer Science, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Electronics & Communication Engineering.

For English, out of the 10 marks to be awarded, 5 marks will be for questions based on a given passage and remaining 5 marks for Basic Grammar and General English of +2 Standards. Sample questions are there in the Prospectus. Each correct answer will fetch 3 marks. 1 mark will be deducted for every wrong answer. Marking of more than one bubble against a question will be considered as a wrong answer. Erasing, overwriting, partial marking etc may also be treated as incorrect answer. No deduction of mark will be made for unanswered questions. 

The rank list will be prepared based on this Entrance Test. Candidates should secure a minimum of 15% marks in the entrance test to become eligible for the inclusion in the rank list.

Resolution of tie for preparing the ranked list: If there is any tie of marks, those with higher score in Mathematics will be placed higher in rank. If tie still exists, candidates with higher score in English will be placed higher in rank. If there is any further tie, age of the candidate will be taken into account and the older will be placed in higher ranking than the younger one.

Allotment: The allotment of seats will be made by the Director of Technical Education in accordance with the rank in the Entrance Examination and availability of seats in the various categories through the websitewww.dtekerala.gov.in, according to the options given by the candidates.  Those who are eligible for admission, as per the rank list, will have to enter their options online between 20.5.2012 to 5 pm on 9.6.2012. After each allotment there will be provision for rearranging the options. A candidate getting an allotment will have to join the particular institution. He/She will be considered for further allotments. Once the candidate gets an allotment, all the lower options will automatically be cancelled and re-allotment will only be done based on higher options only. If a candidate is satisfied with the allotment he/she gets in a particular allotment and if he/she does not want to be considered for further allotments, he/she will have to cancel all the remaining options within the stipulated time.

3 Year LL.B : First allotment

The Centralised Allotment Process for 3 year LL.B Course in the four Government Law Colleges of the State for the year 2011-'12 commenced on 09.12.2011. The option registration ended at 5 pm on 15.12.2011. Based on the options, the first allotment for admission to 3 year LL.B Course 2011-12 has been published. Details of allotment is available in the website www.cee.kerala.gov.in

The details such as name of the candidate, roll number, allotment details, reservations allowed, tuition fee to be remitted etc. are available in the home page of the candidate. The candidate shall take a print out of the Allotment Letter.

Candidates who receive allotment to Government Law Colleges for 3 Year LL.B Course in the first allotment should join the allotted colleges on the 19th and 20th of December 2011. Colleges shall furnish the non-joining report to the Commissioner for Entrance Examinations before 4 p.m. on 21.12.2011. The candidates should remit the fees at the allotted college at the time of admission. The candidates who do not join the College within the stipulated time will lose their allotment and will not be considered for further allotments.

1.50 lakh Kerala students to get animation skills

 Nearly 1.50 lakh students in Kerala are set to be equipped with animation skills in December through a state-run programme that has helped to break the barrier in IT education in schools.

In May, the IT@School project had trained 1,586 selected students in animation skills with the help of whom 12,535 others were trained during Onam vacation in August. A statement issued here Thursday said a minimum of 50 students each from a school would attend the mass training programme in December through IT Clubs in the institutions.

Project chief K. Anvar Sadath said the innovative training session would take the students through a virtual tour on the animation movie making process. "We have already submitted the documents to Guinness World Records for terming the training given to 12,535 students during the Onam vacation as the world's largest in its kind," Sadath said.

5 YEAR LL.B : FIRST ALLOTMENT PUBLISHED

 The Commissioner for Entrance Examinations has published the first allotment to the Five Year LLB course today evening. Centralized Allotment Process for Integrated 5 year LL.B Course in the four Government Law Colleges of the State for the year 2011-'12 was commenced on 17.10.2011. Allotment details can be had from the

The details such as candidates' name, roll number, allotment details, reservations allowed, tuition fee to be remitted are available on the home page of the candidate. The candidate can take a print out of the allotment memo.

All candidates who have received allotment should remit the fees at the allotted college at the time of admission. The candidates who do not join the College within the stipulated time will lose their allotment and also the higher order options.

Candidates who receive allotment to Government Law Colleges for Integrated 5 year LL.B course in the first allotment should join the allotted colleges on 25th, 27th or 28th October 2011. UG Admission of MG University through CAP

Applications have been invited for admission to all UG programmes in the affiliated Arts & Science Colleges/Constituent Colleges owned and run by the MG University, Kottayam for the academic Year 2011-12 through Centralised Allotment Process (CAP) except UG Programmes under the Faculty of Fine Arts and those UG Programmes admission to which is based on entrance examinations.

AIPMT 2010: 48 seats left in Kerala

On the second day of the seats allotment under All India Quota for MBBS/BDS, all 30 seats each in Government Medical Colleges at Thiruvananthapuram (KL02) and Kozhikode (KL01) in Kerala were filled. There are 9 MBBS seats at Medical College, Kottayam, 18 at Medical College, Trichur and 21 at TD Medical College, Alappuzha to be filled.

All seats at S.M.S. Medical College, Jaipur (RJ03), Lady Hardinge Medical College,New Delhi (DL01), Maulana Azad Medical College, New Delhi, (DL02), Univ. Coll. of Medical Sciences, Delhi (DL03), VMMC & Safdarjung Hospital, New Delhi, (DL04), Madras Medical College & Research Institute, Chennai (TN04), K.G.M. University, Lucknow (UP03), Institute of Medical Science, BHU, Varanasi (UP09) have also been filled.

On closing of allotments on the second day, a total of 1611 MBBS seats and 234 BDS seats are available for allotment. Of the available MBBS seats, 229 are in Tamil Nadu and 164 in Karnataka.

Nursing, Pharmacy admissions in Kerala

LBS Centre for Science & Technology, has invited Applications for admission to Professional Degree Courses 2010 in Nursing, Pharmacy and Para Medical Streams . Admissions will be to B.Sc. Nursing, B.Sc. (MLT), B.Sc (Optometry), BPT, B.Pharm and Pharm.D.

Admissions to these courses will be based on merit as assessed in the rank list prepared based on the marks obtained in the qualifying examination(s), after having the normalization procedure as described in the Prospectus . Only a single application form is needed for applying for admission to the various courses. However, application forms are different for ‘General’ and ‘SC/ST’ candidates. A candidate who does not belong to SC/ST community will be treated as a ‘General’ candidate for this purpose. Children of Inter-Caste married couple of whom one is SC/ST, eligible for educational and monetary benefits admissible to SC/ST as per Prospectus conditions, should apply in the form meant for SC/ST and should attach an inter-caste marriage Certificate from the Revenue officials with the application form. The application fee will be Rs.500/- for General candidates and Rs.250/- for SC / ST candidates.

The Acknowledgement Card will have the application number printed on it and a security key embedded in a box. The candidate should scratch the box to get the security key. The candidate should maintain strict confidentiality of his/her security key to protect his/her interest.

First Allotment will be announced on 29-06-2010 (Tuesday) and fee remittance based on it has to be made at designated Banks between 30-06-2010 and 03-07-2010.

Facility for Re arrangement/deletion of options after first allotment will be available from 1-7-2010 to 4-7-2010. Second Allotment will be on 06-07-2010 (Tuesday) based on which Fee/Balance fee Remittance has to be made at designated Banks between 7-7-2010 and 10-7-2010.

Facility for Re arrangement/deletion of options after second allotment will be available from 8-07-2010 to 11-07-2010 and the 3rd allotment will be on 13-07-2010 (Tuesday). Fee/Balance fee Remittance at designated Banks based on third allotment has to done between 14-07-2010 and 17-07-2010.

Kerala takes IT industry to rural areas

In a move to push the spread of the IT industry at the grassroots level, Kerala Saturday opened two "techno-lodges", small IT service centres, in Kadakkal and Perinad in Kollam district. The techno-lodges scheme of the state government seeks to facilitate the setting up of IT industry units in small towns and villages.

Labour Minister P.K. Gurudasan, who inaugurated the facility in Kadakkal, said the techno-lodge scheme would promote IT companies to operate from low-cost rural centres and thereby create employment in rural areas. "Today this has seen fruition in Kadakkal and Perinad, and very soon there would be more centres across the state," Gurudasan said.

Under the scheme, the government plans to open around 100 techno-lodges across the state with a view of creating more jobs in the IT-enabled services sector in rural areas. Over 60 panchayats (village council) have already come forward offering infrastructure facilities to set up techno-lodges.

Technopark-based Accentia Technologies has taken over the techno-lodges in Kollam and will start rolling out their services from these centres. The 2,500-square-feet Kadakkal facility has a seating capacity of 54, while it is 78 for the 2,750-square-feet centre in Perinad.

Accentia plans to employ 250 professionals in the Kadakkal facility and 300 in Perinad to work across three shifts. The state government has spent nearly Rs.2 million for refurbishing the building at Kadakkal and around Rs.3 million on the Perinad centre, officials said.

"Technolodge has been set up with the objective to create low cost alternative locations for BPO companies," state IT Secretary Ajay Kumar said. HC restores affiliation of med., engg colleges

The High Court of Kerala on Friday ordered the Calicut University to restore affiliation within two weeks of two engineering colleges and two medical colleges under the inter-church council, that come under the varsity’s ambit.

Justice V Giri ordered affiliation to Cheruthuruthi Jyothi Engineering College, Kodakara Sahrudaya College of Engineering and Technology, Jubilee Mission Medical College and Amala Medical College in Thrissur. With its order the court quashed the Calicut University Syndicate decision taken on June 18, 2009 to withdraw the affiliation to the four colleges.

Since the four colleges had not entered into an agreement with the government for admissions to their professional courses, they can proceed with their own admission process for the academic year 2009-2010, the court said.

The court, while passing the order, observed that Sahradaya College of Engineering and Technology and Jyothi Engineering College had been approved by the AICTE for the year 2009-10 as well. The stand taken by the university that these two colleges were not entitled to an extension of affiliation for the year 2009-10 on the ground that they did not have a current approval from the AICTE was untenable and unsustainable, the court said.

The Amala Institute of Medical Sciences and Jubilee Mission Medical Colleges were recognized medical institutions in that behalf by the Medical Council of India and the Central Government. The degrees obtained by the students from these two institutions are treated as recognized medical qualifications by the Central Government. Consequently there is neither a necessity nor a provision in the Medical Council Act for an yearly approval of these two medical institutions.

The provisions relating to the method of admission and determination of fees as contained in the Calicut University First Ordinances, 1978, are inapplicable to the self-financing colleges. The power to frame any rules, providing for the determination of procedure for admission and fees in self-financing colleges is available to the Government. However the Government has not framed any rules in exercise of its powers under Section 68A of the Act so far, the court observed.
