Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Technology, named after the late Prime Minister Sri. Rajiv Gandhi, run by the Government of Kerala, started functioning in 1991. It has established a vast infrastructure and put together a team of dedicated teachers. The institution has thus attained a remarkable place as a technical training Institute.Government started this institution with a view of making it a center for post graduation and research studies. The college is affiliated to the Mahatma Gandhi University Kottayam ,Kerala.
Located 14 km from Kottayam, the institute was founded in 1991 with courses of study in electrical,electronics, mechanical and civil engineering, as well as a master's program in applied computation. In 1999 a B. Tech in computer science and engineering was added. In 2011 a B. Arch in architecture course was added.
