Mechanical and Civil in Demand

The first allotment to the Engineering Degree Courses, Kerala as part of the allotment to Professional Degree Courses, Kerala 2009 shows a clear shift in demand for the Mechanical Engineering (ME) and Civil Engineering (CE) branches in different categories of Colleges as well as in Colleges in high demand.

In the Government/Aided Category of Engineering Colleges, State merit (SM) seats for Mechanical Engineering available in 9 colleges, finished at Rank number 1988 as per the first allotment announced on Friday. The demand for this branch at College of Engineering, Trivandrum has gone up considerably and is more in demand than Applied Electronics & Instrumentation (AE) and Computer Science (CS) as per the first allotment.

The last allotment under SM for ME at TVE as per the allotment of 17.7.2009 is 332, while that of that of CS is 641 and of AE, 669. In 2008, as per the first allotment which was announced on 17.7.2008, last SM allotment for CS, AE and ME were 325, 419 and 538 respectively.

Electrical & Electronics (EE) finished at 2478 state wide (9 colleges) under SM in the first allotment this year while Electronics & Communication Engineering (EC) finished a bit lower at 2644 state wide ( 11 colleges) under SM.

At College of Engineering Trivandrum, EC continued to be the most demanded course with the last allotment there under SM going to rank 128. For Civil Engineering here, the last allotment under SM went to rank 1205 while it was to Rank 1878 in the first allotment in 2008 here. State wide Civil closed under SM at 3388 while it was 4396 in SM in 2008, state wide in the first allotment.

The last ranks state wide, under SM category for various Engineering branches as per the first allotment are as follows in Government/Aided/KAU Colleges.

ME - 1988; IE - 2049; EE- 2478; EC - 2644; MP - 2743; CE - 3388; AE - 4234; IC - 4371; CS - 4432; CH - 4775; PP - 4986; IT - 7014; DS - 7679; AG - 8775.

In the Government Controlled Self Financing Colleges, Mechanical Engineering available in 5 colleges finished at 6375 in SM category while Civil Engineering available in 3 colleges closed at 8319 in State merit. In this category of Colleges, allotments to EC available in all the 22 colleges in the category went up to 8589 under SM.

The last rank state wider for various branches in Government Controlled Self financing Colleges are as follows.

MA - 5024; MP - 5686; BM - 5900; ME - 6375; AE - 7124; BT - 8014; CE - 8319; EC - 8589; EE - 9806; EI - 11133; CS - 13079; PO - 14349; PT - 15610; IT - 16734.

In Private Self financing Colleges, Mechanical Engineering offered in 33 Colleges closed at Rank 15991 under State merit while Civil Engineering went up to 19309 in State merit (29 colleges). EC closed at Rank 20682 (49 Colleges) while EE finished at 20707 (39 colleges).

The last allotments state wide for various branches in Private Self financing Colleges are as follows.

AO-5919; BM - 13400; ME - 15991; IC - 17483; AU - 17704; PP - 17758; EI- 18709; BT - 19227; CE - 19309; FT - 20110; EC - 20682; EE - 20707; AE - 20838; CS - 23299; IT -25064.

In Architecture stream allotments were made to 3 colleges under Government/Aided category and one college under the self-financing Category. The last allotment under SM in these 2 categories of colleges was to Architecture ranks 71 and 90 respectively.
